Correct Grease Seal for a Boat Trailer that 10-19 Seal won't Fit

Updated 12/11/2017 | Published 12/10/2017

Question:

I have a bass boat trailer that Im changing grease seals and regreasing bearings. The bearings are L68149 rear and L44649 front which call for grease seal 10-19 measuring 2.565 x 1.718. The problem is that the grease seal fits rather loosely, not snug at all, which concerned me. So, I measured the hub where the seal fits and it measures 42mm which is 1.654. Im thinking I have the wrong seal. What do you think?

Although there are standard bearing and seal combinations, sometimes (especially on older trailers) the "correct" seal won't fit, as you have found out.

The closest seal that we have to the 1.654 Inner Diameter (ID) that you measured is part # 168255TB which has a 1.687" ID. This will be a little bigger than what you are needing but it will fit more snug than the 1.719" ID of the 10-19 seal that you are currently using.

You will also want to check the diameter of the hub that this grease seal fits. The 10-19 seal has an Outer Diameter (OD) of 2.565" while the part # 168255TB that I referenced has a 2.561" OD. If the 10-19 seal fits well in your hub then this seal would be your better option.
