Question:
I have a Thule Atlantis 1800 box, but just bought a new vehicle 2017 Honda CRV with factory crossbars I have mounted it in the most forward position, but the rear hatch still will not clear the back of the box. Could this part be used to drill new holes in the front of the box and attach it to the factory rails? I would still be using the factory rear adjustable mounting system, this would only be for the front crossbar.

If you choose to drill new holes and use hardware like # TH04997, that is outside of Thule's warranty and it has not been tested for function.
For your 2017 Honda CRV with factory crossbars Thule recommends the following cargo boxes:
Force XT XL # TH6358B
Motion XT XL # TH629806
If you prefer to not purchase a new directly-compatible cargo box you can use the existing original mounting hardware that came with the box and drill new holes in the bottom to allow the box to be more forward once mounted. You will need to carefully drill new holes of the same size and spacing as the originals and to seal up the extra holes with sealant # LT37467. Do note that this modification will void the box warranty.
