How to Secure 7-Way Wiring Harness to 7-Way Socket With Broken Locking Tab
Updated 11/02/2017 | Published 11/01/2017 >
Question:
I have a 2002 F150 that came with a factory 7 and 4 way setup. The connector to the bumper mounted seven way receptacle is coming loose because the plastic lock tab broke. Does this mean that I would have to replace the entire harness because the plastic lock tab fell out ? Thanks

Expert Reply:
If your 7-way harness' locking tab broke you could replace the wiring harness if you wanted to or you can simply snug it up with a zip tie.
I suggest that you disconnect the plug from the 7-way, clean the contacts as needed, apply a protective coating of dielectric grease # 11755 to block moisture and contaminants from entering and secure the harness to the 7-way with a zip tie, something like # 853-3194-02.
Wiring kits for your truck are linked, for reference.
