According to the online version of the owner's manual for your 2017 Ram 2500 it states that the towing weight limits for a 5th wheel trailer are 25,000 lbs Trailer Weight and 5,000 lbs Tongue Weight. You will be able to safely pull your trailer with the 2500 model.
The best option that we have when it comes to a sliding 5th wheel hitch is to use the Hijacker Autosliding 5th wheel hitch. The Demco Hijacker that I recommend is the 18K # DM8550034 along with the base rails # DM8552025-71 as it will have more than enough strength for the 14,500-lb GVWR of your trailer. The best part about the autosliding hitch is just that; the autosliding feature. It will enable you to stay inside the cab of your truck in those tight turning situations which will make your trip a lot quicker. The Hijacker also features cushioning polyurethane dampeners, a wraparound, single-piece jaw, and a double-pivoting hitch head for a smooth ride with minimal chucking and jarring.
If you would rather go with a traditional slider then I recommend going with the Curt A20 # C16541 and Base Rails # RP50054-58. The 20K is one of the best 5th wheel hitches available due to the heavy-duty vibration dampeners, cast single-jaw system, and a pivoting head to help create a very comparable ride to the Hijacker.
If you do not already have a 7-Way connection in your truck bed then I also recommend installing the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness 7-Pole # C56000 to help make connecting and disconnecting your 5th wheel much easier.
