How Does Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch # 13703 Mount to an I-Beam Trailer Frame

Question:
Good morning. I have a question concerning the Curt model 13703 adjustable RV hitch. I own a 2010 Jayco Jay Flight 26 BH. It has an I beam frame. From the inside of the lip of the frame it measures 72” wide. From the middle of the frame it measures 74” wide and from the outer lip it measures 76” wide. Will the 13703 work with this trailer? I didn’t know if the frame bracket lip would allow additional length when mounted to achieve the 72” that I am needling. Is this hitch won’t work, do you have any additional ideas. We are planning on using it for a hitch mounted bike rack. Thanks!

The way the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13703, mounts to an I-Beam frame is that the top bracket on either side of the hitch attaches to the middle, vertical part of the frame. It sounds as if at that point you have 74 inches. If that is the case then this hitch is not long enough. I have included a link to the installation instructions that show where it attaches for you to view.
What you may be able to do is have a hitch fabricated using some of our fabrications parts. I have included a link to them for you to view. A local machine shop or a shop that works on trailers should be able to determine what additional parts are needed.
Since you are using the hitch for a bike rack, I have included a link to the racks that are rated for use behind a trailer. There are also several other options in this list that you may be able to use that do not require a trailer hitch.
