Comparing Blue Ox Sway Pro # BXW1000 to # BXW1006

Updated 04/29/2026 | Published 10/14/2017

Question:

What is the difference between the Blue Ox # BXW 1000 and # 1006 ? Just the number of hole adjustments in the shank or ... ? Thanks.

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1000 is only different from the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1006 in the shank as you stated. The # BXW1006 has a much larger vertical adjustment ability. I've attached two photos to assist in the comparison but the hole size and spacing of 1-1/4 inches on center is identical as are all of the other dimensions of the shank. The rise and drop are the only differences but it is a 5 inch rise an a 5 inch drop difference for a 10 inch difference in adjustability.

As a follow up to the expert answer, 1. How would I know how much drop/rise is required for my truck/trailer combination? 2. If the bxw1000 would have enough drop/rise would there be any harm in choosing the bxw1006 and having that unneeded, longer drop/rise? thank you.

@Pete Measure from top of hitch opening down to ground as well as distance from bottom of coupler lip to ground. The difference between these two is the amount of rise/drop that is needed. If you go with a shank with more drop than needed only real issue is lost ground clearance.
