Question:

Hi - I am confused on a part that is required. I am looking to install the full monty hitch assembly for a 2004 Tundra. My question is what is the difference between the wiring of 119179KIT and that contained in ETBC7. I don't have a trailer identified yet so not sure of the trailer side but for the moment just looking to install a basic tow package.

The most basic wiring set up for your Tundra would be a 4-pole connector, like that included with part # C59496.

A 4-pole provides a connection for basic lighting functions like running lights, turn signals and brake lights.

If your trailer features electric brakes, a brake controller and a 7-way connector like that included with the ETBC7 would be needed. The 7-way connector included with the ETBC7 is actually an adapter that needs a functional 4-pole to plug into. Once the adapter is plugged in, the adapter has 4 extra wires that would need to be connected. The white wire is grounded to the vehicle, the purple wire (if the trailer has reverse lights) would be tapped into the reverse light circuit, the black wire would be ran to the positive battery terminal via an included 40 amp circuit breaker to provide 12-volt power for any trailer mounted accessories and the blue wire would be connected to the blue wire exiting the rear of the brake controller.
