Helpful Expert Reply:
For your 2017 VW Golf Wolfsburg Edition, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11412. If you will be doing some light towing with this hitch receiver, I recommend the ball mount # C45521 along with hitch ball # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter ball.
For trailer wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118646. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Volkswagen Golf's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on both the driver's side and the passenger's side. You will need to remove the threshold, floor panels, cargo trays, and interior trim panels to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse. I've attached an article to assist in running the wire to the battery.
