When Replacing Landing Gear Motor and Gear Box Can Landing Gear Jacks Support Weight of Trailer

Question:
Can you replace the landing gear motor and gear box while the 5th wheel is free standing? Or does it need to be on jack stands or hooked up to the tow truck?

The motor and gear box of a landing gear set can be replaced while just the landing gear jacks are holding the weight of the trailer. You would not have to have the jack supported by a second set of jacks or have it connected to a truck.
The gear box turns the screw inside the jack but when it is removed it does not allow the jacks to drop.
