Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2002 Volkswagen Eurovan
Updated 08/15/2017 | Published 08/14/2017 >
Question:
For a 2002 VW Eurovan, what wiring harness do I need for a standard trailer? Does it need to be powered or can it be an unpowered kit? Im assuming the difference has to do with the electrical load requirements of the trailer Im pulling. Is this correct? Thanks!!

Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power drawn straight from the battery to protect the taillight circuits.
For your 2002 Volkswagen Eurovan you need to install a harness that draws power from the battery to protect the taillight circuits. For that you would need the part # C56175. I also attached a help article on running the power wire for you to check out as well.
