Question:

I have a TracRac Trac One - Model 27000-01 truck rack with 4-inch wide and 1-1/2-inch thick crossbars. Do you have any kayak racks that will fit these extra wide and thicker crossbars? Our kayaks are getting trashed just laying them on the crossbars. Thanks

There is a solution which is going to help save your kayaks from any further damage. To mount them on your TracRac TA27000-01 I recommend using the Malone Foam Kayak Block # MPG159. These are going to fit directly over the four-inch bars on your Trac-Rac, and you would need two of them per kayak. For tie-downs you would want to use the Malone Bow and Stern Tie-Down Kit # MPG306.

What I've done with MY TracRac (built when TracRac was it's own company, before Thule bought them and made the rack weaker) is just use Sport Rack "J" style kayak racks. I had to get longer bolts to make it fit the deeper cross rails, but that was only another few dollars from Ace. Very easy to rig up, and a more permanent solution that you don't have fight foam blocks shifting around.

@GregH That's a good solution for sure. And also, since the time I wrote this, Malone actually came out with a bolt kit for their j-style kayak carrier that'll fit T-slots as well, so that's another thing you can do, using the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier # MPG114MD and Truck Rack T-Slot Fit Kit # MPG8287.
