Hub and Parts Replacement for Dexter Axle
Updated 08/02/2017 | Published 07/31/2017 >
Question:
I have a 5 x 13 6 single axle utility trailer. I would like to know replacement part numbers. The axle is marked: DEXTER AXLE P- 15 MODEL SLR SN D 2217424 It has leaf springs and the bolts and bushings look to be in marginal condition. Also, the bolt pattern is 5 x 4 3/4. Could I buy 5 x 4 1/2 hubs to replace the existing hubs? The bearings spin fine but, if I don't replace the hubs, I will need new seals. I've looked around online and have not been able to identify parts from the axle id alone. Thanks

You can use a different bolt pattern as long as the bearing numbers are the same. The easiest way for you to identify the replacement parts you are going to need for the hub is by identifying the inner and outer bearing numbers on your old hubs, which will be stamped directly on the bearings themselves. You would also be able to do this by measuring the spindle to the thousandths of an inch by using a digital caliper such as # PTW80157; you can use the attached photo as a guide for what to measure.
