Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Only Engage for a Few Seconds

Question:
I Have 83 aluma lite trailer everything works on it but last time coming home i had no brakes when we got home had the wife engage the brake the controller and could hear the magnets engage for about 2 seconds then stop, pulled the tires off and magnets still look good also checked controller and was putting out about 13 volts turned all the way up please help have no idea what needs fixing

It sounds like you either have a short or a weak ground connection.
I'd start by checking the ground connections and make sure they're good and clean. If they've worn loose or become corroded this will weaken the connection.
Inspect the wiring to make sure there's not exposed or damaged wires. If there's a short on the wiring somewhere it could be causing an overload on the controller. Pay extra attention to any points where two wires are connected.
Also, make sure the trailer connectors, both on the vehicle and trailer, are good and clean.
If you still can't find the issue let me know and we'll keep troubleshooting.
