i have a car trailer with a break away. i added a winch with its own battery. i need to get winch battery from charging the break away when vehicle id off. i was thinking 2 diods one on each battery

Yes, your idea of using diodes will work to prevent the winch battery from charging the breakaway battery.

The diode part # RM-690 would be perfect for what you are looking to do. It has an 85 amp rating.
