Question:

Hello, the R-design has a slightly different lower fascia than the other models. Could you tell me if the Curt model will clear the receiver? I understand there will be cutting to clear the receiver, but I dont want the bumper cover to rest on the receiver. Also can you recommend a 7pin mount for this hitch that works with the factory wiring harness Volvo Part# 31373661?

I did some checking at the Curt trailer hitch # C53HR is listed as a fit for all styles of the 2017 Volvo XC90 so that would include the R-Design. Like you said there is some fascia trimming required. If you do not want any contact between the fascia and the hitch receiver, then you would just need to trim slightly more above the receiver (if there is contact).

From what I could find on Volvo part 31373661 is that it is listed for a 2016 XC90 and not a 2017 so I do recommend verifying with Volvo that it is the correct part. The factory mount is an odd duck that seems to integrate into the factory hitch in some way. While we do not have something like that we do have some brackets that will work but may require a little modification.

Mounting box # 18159 is one option. You would just need to find a location to mount it. I know there isn't a lot of space once a hitch is installed on the XC90. Another option is to use bracket # HM48625 with either long mount # C57202 or short mount # 18140. I have included some links to videos on these parts for you.
