Can you recommend a roof rack to carry a kayak on a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

There are a few different roof types you may have on your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Which roof type will determine the parts needed to have a complete roof rack.

Your Jeep may have the E Group package, which means the roof will have rails that run front to back that have a chrome strip on them. There will be a channel that runs inside the rail. If it does, I suggest the Yakima rack that includes parts # Y00421, # Y53TR, and # Y00244. The feet connect to the factory rails.

If the Jeep does not have the E Group package then you'll have either a naked roof or rails that do not have the channel that runs through it. In this case I recommend the rack that consists of # Y00422, # Y28TR, and # Y06121. This rack attaches with clips around the edge of the roof.

Then to carry the kayak you can use the Yakima DeckHand # Y04083-2. The saddles conform to the shape of the kayak.

In addition you can use the Thule Hood Loops # TH529 to help tie down the bow and stern, or the etrailer tie-down kit that has additional straps along with anchors that simply close into your hood or hatch without damage to your vehicle.
