Replacement Shock for Worn Out One on a Titan Model 60 Trailer Coupler
Updated 05/10/2017 | Published 05/09/2017 >
Question:
Im trying to figure out if the shock T2336200 is worn out and causing my brakes to drag. When I serviced my drum brakes at the end of last year I wound them loose so that their was minimal drag when I spun the wheel so my issue is in the coupler. Is the shock on the coupler suppose to be charged to always be extended? Like the shock on a car hood Or does it just apply hydraulic pressure in both directions to slow the stop and go movement. My shock isnt charged to extend anymore. Thanks!

It does indeed sound like the shock is shot. The shock basically prevents the moving part of the coupler from banging around when stopping and accelerating. If you can easily move the coupler in and out by hand then it is for sure the shock. For the model 60 actuators use shock # T2336200.
You mentioned adjusting the trailer brakes but make sure you have not adjusted them too far. There should be a slight but constant drag of the pads on the drum when the wheel is turned. You might also want to go ahead and bleed the brakes first before replacing the shock.
