Replacement Inner Member for Old A-60 on 2004 Trailer

Updated 03/21/2026 | Published 03/19/2026

Question:

I am fixing up my trailer which is a 2003 or 2004, the surge brake master cylinder is rusty and leaking, I presume the shock needs replacing, and the breakaway cable was cut when I purchased. Give all the items that need fixing I would like to replace the whole . I was looking at the DX97FR thinking that would be the appropriate replacement. The trailer is a tandem but only brakes on the back, drum brakes, and I believe it is A-60 rated for 6,500 LBs but my understanding is the rating was just updated to 7,500 LBs. Do you think this is the correct part, if not can you provide suggestions. Look at the attached pictures.

Hey Howard! Yes, I think the Replacement Inner Member for Dexter DX7.5L Brake Actuator # DX97FR will replace what you have. It has the same body, just a different coupler on the end, so it will line up in the old housing.

If you want to save some money, pick up the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX77FR instead. At least for the time being it has a lower cost and comes with the primed housing. You can remove the housing, it has the same inner member.

What kind of trailer are you working on?

I rebuilt the brake system on my 2006 Shorelander trailer with tandem axle and tandem brakes. The Replacement Inner Member for Dexter DX7.5L Brake Actuator was a critical part of this rebuild and it functions perfectly hauling my 2006 Searay 220. My old actuator was totally rusted and did not work at all.
