Question:
I am looking to purchase a Curt trailer brake controller for my truck. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab with the 5.9 Cummins. I was looking at model C74VV-C51332, but I am unsure if that is the best product for me. My truck has the factory trailer plug on the rear bumper. But the truck did not come with the towing package. However, underneath the steering wheel to the right of the emergency brake there is a rectangular shaped plug that looks to fit with C51332. Again I just want to make sure I am getting the right trailer brake controller since I am not sure what is meant by the factory harness.

The price for the Venturer controller part # C74VV and install harness part # C51332 is tough to beat but a proportional brake controller will be a much better option. Proportional controllers sense how hard you are applying the brakes and apply the trailer brakes the same way. Time-delayed like the Venturer put out a preset amount of braking power so they aren't as effective.
So instead the Triflex part # C24VV with the install harness # C51332 would be the better option for your 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 which is a confirmed fit. The factory 7-way refers to the round trailer wiring connector your truck has at the rear of it.
