The Curt Venturer Brake Controller, # C74VV, and Brake Controller Wiring Harness, # C51322, will install in your 2013 Ford Explorer if you already have the 7-way trailer connector installed at the rear of your vehicle.
If you do not have a trailer connector installed, then you will need to install a 4-way connector harness, # 118540, a Universal Installation Kit for Brake Controller, # ETBC7, and Brake controller Harness, # C51515 with the Curt Brake Controller # C74VV. The brake harness wiring will connect to the wiring that will be installed from the # ETBC7 kit.
The 4-way harness will plug into existing electrical plugs on your Ford. The # ETBC7 kit will have a 7-way connector, wire, and other electrical components needed to install the brake controller. I have attached an installation video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a 2014 Explorer for you to review.
If you have a 4-way connector installed, then you will only need the # ETBC7 kit and the # C51515 harness along with the Curt brake controller. Your factory 4-way will connect to the # ETBC7 kit's 7-way connector at the rear of your Explorer.
I have also attached a couple articles for your to review. One is on installing a brake controller from scratch and the other has more information on the # ETBC7 brake controller install kit.
