Question:

I have a project Id like to tackle in the near future, but Ive been scouring the internet and cant find any help regarding this type of idea I have a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe motorcycle that I would like to light up with small round LED type lights - red facing aft, amber facing forward, white facing down. Years ago, custom true custom, as in built in my garage lighting was all the rage, and many touring bikes could be seen encrusted with bullet-style, hooded, chrome marker lights, as well as bar lights around the touring luggage. My intention is to emulate that, without all the chrome, with switches independent of the bikes own wiring harness, and loading it up to give it a real, comet-flying-down-the-road effect. So, my question is will I need to use any kind of step-down or fuse system to string these lights together and mount them? If so, what do you recommend. I have quite a number of lights at my disposal, so Ill be adding as many as I can safely fit. My bikes electrical system is 12-volts. Anything you can advise is greatly appreciated. You would need to install a switch for the lights from the 12V battery. Since you are installing LED lights, you should not have any problems with power draw.

We do not carry switches that are specifically designed for motorcycle lighting but you may want to take a look at the product page I attached for the switches we offer. You can add an inline fuse holder like part # SWC9545.

Each of the lights will need to be grounded to the motorcycle so I recommend ring terminals like part # DW05740-1. These are heat shrinkable so it helps keep moisture and dirt out.

For the wiring you can use part # 12-1-1. This is a Black standard copper 12-gauge wire that is sold by the foot.

While you are at it you may want to consider replacing the lights you have on your motorcycle with LEDs to make sure you do not overload the circuit.
