Is Stabilizer Strap Required When Carrying Bike Rack with Curt Hitch

Question:

Hello, just received and installed hitch on my wifes car _ easy! Nothing listed for 22017 VW Golf TSI. A Curt is shown for 2016, but says requires tie down strap? Have 2-bike rack, road bikes, never seen a strap at any bike event. Thanks for any input, advice on hitch part number.

Curt requires the use of their stabilizer strap part # 18050 when using their hitch to carry a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached a review video for you to check for the strap as well. There are quite a few people who ignore this requirement but it will void the warranty of the hitch so we can't safely endorse this.
