Question:
i am replacing the brake shoes on a used 1977 miley horse trailer. The inside diameter of the hub is 10 inches and the width of the shoes on it are 2 inches. these are for a 3500 lb axle. i cant find these on your site. it appears there is enough room on the hub to use a 2 1/4 width shoe. are these interchangeable? I do not know the history of this trailer or previous owners. thank you for your help

Helpful Expert Reply:
A 10 inch brake assembly is typical for a 3500 lb axle has 2-1/4 inch shoes. As long as there is room in the hub for this, I recommend using the wider shoe. It will give you more surface contact to function correctly.
My recommendation is to use Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Right Hand - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35R-SA along with # AKEBRK-35L-SA for the left hand side. If you need mounting hardware for these assemblies you can use # BIK-00. These self-adjusting brake assemblies require initial adjustment when installing and then will adjust themselves as they wear to ensure proper function.
It is more cost effective to replace the entire assembly than to replace individual parts and then you also have an entirely new braking system instead of just new shoes, old springs, and old magnet. We don't have any shoes that are 10 inches by 2 inches.
