Can Lippert ABS 12" Brakes And Hubs Be Used On Equipment Hauler Trailer With Standard 12" Brakes 7K?

Question:
I’ve got an equipment hauler with standard 12inch drums and 7K axles, can I still use these ABS brakes?

Technically, yes Steve, the Electric Trailer Brake Assembly for Lippert ABS Hubs - 12" 5.2K - 7K #LC83PX will physically fit the same 4-bolt mounting flange and 12inch drums. But here’s the catch: if your hubs don’t have the ABS ring, then the ABS sensor prep on these brakes won’t do anything, and you’re paying for a feature that’s not being used. Do you know if you already have the ABS system or not? If not, this module is only available through Lippert at this time or from OEM when trailer is bought new.
In your case, I’d recommend sticking with a traditional electric brake like etrailer # AKEBRK-7-SA, unless you’re planning to switch to ABS hubs like # LC47PX along with that Lipper module.
Other haulers: anyone retrofit ABS onto their trailer? Would love to hear your experience.
