How To Install The Hopkins EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift Assist

Question:
After installation on 2006 silverado the rod is about 1 1/2 inches below bottom of tailgate when closed. This allows the rod to show and it is on an angle from left to right. I laid the template on top of pivot post per instructions for my truck. The video shows the template on the edge of the truck bed. Which is correct as I didnt see the video until after install?

As shown in the attached video at about the 32 second mark, the template is used to show where to drill the hole in the truck tailgate post and then in the tailgate itself. You want to make sure you mark and drill the holes that are designed for your model truck.
The template remains in the same place when locating the place for drilling a hole in the bottom of the tailgate itself.
I recommend following the direction of the attached video to make sure you install the tailgate assist correctly.
