Question:
I have a 2010 Camry with Curt hitch on it 350lb hitch rating but it has a 1 1/4 inch receiver. I want to buy a small motorcycle carrier able to hold 150lbs max. Do you have anything like that or is it possible to use a 1 1/4 to 2 inch adapter between them? Thanks for any help!

Expert Reply:
The Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD is designed to adapt the 1-1/4 inch hitch opening to a 2 inch hitch opening. However, for your application, I would not recommend using any hitch adapter.
The problem with using hitch adapters is it will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The tongue weight capacity of the Curt hitch, # C12343, is 350 lbs. Using the hitch adapter will drop that down to 175 lbs. The max tongue weight will include the weight of the motorcycle carrier, the motorcycle and any cargo weight the is stored in your vehicle behind the rear axle. Adding a motorcycle, a carrier and what you have in the trunk of your vehicle may be too much for the hitch to handle.
