Why Can't The Sidewinder Be Used With The B&W Companion Slider?
Published 12/16/2016 >
Question:
I have a bandW Companion Slider 5th wheel hitch, and was interested in putting a 5th Airborne Sidewinder pin setup on my trailer, but have been told that 5th Airborne Sidewinder is not compatible with the Companion slider hitch. Can you explain why?

Expert Reply:
It is simply because of the mounting point of the B&W Companion Slider like # BWRVK3400. Reese Sidewinders use the rotating turret to move the pivot point of the trailer, so using the underbed gooseneck allows too much movement for that sidewinder to operate properly without possibly damaging the gooseneck. If you want to use a sidewinder, it is recommended to use fixed rail system as the gooseneck system could be damaged with the extra torque from moving this pivot point.
