Question:

I have a 2014 Ford F-350 and a 30 ft. trailer. I am interested in the Blue Ox weight distribution hitch. The top of the ball needs to be about 2 inches lower than the top of the shaft coming out of the receiver. I need the 1,500 # GTW. What is the maximum on that hitch? Thanks

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 15,000 lbs GTW, 1,500 lbs TW, # BXW1500, may be a good fit for the weights and dimensions you gave. The maximum gross towing weight is 15,000 lbs and the maximum tongue weight is 1500 lbs. You will also need a hitch ball that is either 2 inches like # 63840 or 2-5/16 inches like # C40008. This system will give you up to a 13 inch rise or a 7 inch drop which will accommodate your 2 inch need from shank to top of hitch ball.

The total tongue weight is the most important thing to look for with a weight distribution system. The total tongue weight includes the trailer tongue weight which is usually between 10 and 15% of the total trailer weight plus the cargo weight of anything behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. You want this weight to be in the middle of the spectrum of tongue weight on your weight distribution system.

If you need a slightly higher capacity based on total tongue weight calculations, I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 20,000 lbs GTW, 2,000 lbs TW, # BXW2000. You will also need a hitch ball for this system. A drop shank will be needed for this system, but they have a tongue weight capacity right at 1500 lbs. For that you will want part # BXW4002 which will give you a 4-1/2 inch drop to accommodate your needed drop.
