Updated 10/27/2016 | Published 10/26/2016

Question:

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 4X4 Tire was P265/70R17. They gave me notice as Equipped, This vehicle may not be operated with tire chains but may accommodate some other type of tire traction device. I assume tire cables would be ok?

The reason you received a note not to install tire chains is because of clearance and the possibility of damaging something on the vehicle. You may check the owner's manual that you can use Class S tire chains which have a much lower profile and the risk of damage is reduced. If you are unable to find that information in the owner's manual you can check with your dealership.

The problem is that some areas require the use of snow chains in winter so that creates a real problem for the vehicle owners. You should always obey the law regardless.

We do offer emergency tire chains that would work with your wheel size. They are the Glacier Emergency Twist-Link Snow Tire Chains, part # PW6081. These are a single chain that fits through the wheel and around the tire across the tread instead of a traditional tire chain that installs around the tire.

If you are able to use Class S chains on your Silverado I recommend the Glacier Cable Tire Chains, part # PW3027C. These are spring rollers that are wrapped around wire cross cables and come with a reusable tote for storage.
