Do Friction Sway Control Balls Get Greased and are 2 Required for a 27 Foot Trailer
Updated 10/25/2016 | Published 10/24/2016 >
Question:
Do the ball mounts need to be greased? I have greased mine and when I take it off to back up, my wife invariably brushes against them getting grease on her clothes. Is a second sway bar needed for a trailer total length 27foot 7? I am not having sway issues with just one, but saw other responses indicating you recommend 2 for anything over total length of 26. Thanks!

It is not necessary to grease the small balls used by friction sway control units such as # 17200. But it also would not hurt anything and having some lubrication is definitely better than none.
Two units are recommend for trailers over 26 feet and/or if the trailer weighs between 6,000 and 10,000 pounds. If you are not having sway issues though you could hold off since it isn't required that you have 2 it will just work better if you did have 2.
