I spoke with my contact at Reese and he informed me that yes, you can swap the Reese Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar, 1,700 lbs, part # 66010 into your Reese Weight Distribution w/out Shank - Trunnion Bar - 15,000 lbs GTW, 1,500 lbs TW, part # RP66131, to increase the capacity of your weight distribution system to 1,700 lbs.
The head of your weight distribution system is capable of the 1,700 lbs, however you will need to make sure the the shank you are using is capable of 1,700 lbs tongue weight. If you need a stronger shank I would recommend the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Weight Distribution Shank for 2 inch Hitches - 10,000 lbs, part # AMAC1. This shank can handle tongue weights of up to 2,000 lbs.
You should also consult your vehicle manufacturer for weight capacity specifications for weight distribution to be sure you are not over capacity.
When determining the overall weight capacity of your towing setup you should always go with the lowest weight capacity of all the components in your setup to determine what your actual weight capacity is.
