Can The Lend-a-Hand Folding Handle for RV, # AM-300, Fit On Both A Right Hand And Left Hand Door

Question:

It is really a shame the assist handle can only be used on a right hand opening door. Due to the positioning of the mounting holes to hit the door studs it will not work on a left opening door, there is no backing for the mounting screws.

The Lend-a-Hand Folding Grab Handle for RV, # AM-300, is designed for a right hand door that will open left to right. I called the manufacturer (Stromberg-Carlson) and they said that because of the design of the hinge with the spring actuator in the middle of the hinge that allows you to fold the handle, the mounting holes had to be offset to one side. They said that the right hand door was used more on RVs than a left hand door.

It can be used on a left hand door application, but if you cannot attach the hinges to a door stud, you would have to drill through the wall of the RV and use bolts with washers or a plate to securely mount the handle to the RV.
