How is Surco Universal RV Ladder # SP502L Measured

Question:
how do you measure this ladder from the top of the bend to the bottom or from the place it fastens to the roof to the bottom my jaco ladder has 7 rungs this one has only 6 I just looked on the answers and one person says measure from the fastening bracket on top to tje fastening bracket on bottom the other person says to measure from the top of the top bend to the bottom of the bottom bracket who is right

I went out to the warehouse to measure the Surco RV ladder # SP502L. The overall height is 84-1/2 inches measured from the very bottom to the very top. Mounting surface to mounting surface is about 76-1/2 inches.

Is it possible to shorten the Surco 502L slightly for example at the junction between the upper and lower halves by cutting several inches from the lower half where they fit together?
