Sounds like you are looking for something like the Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch # L3980 as this is the common door latch you see on the side doors of enclosed trailers and can be used on doors that are 1 inch thick like yours.. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

You will also need the # 4PLSP to open the door from inside.
