High Low Adapter Recommendation to Give Thule T2 Bike Rack More Ground Clearance

Published 07/08/2016

Question:

Hi, I have a curt 2inch trailer hitch on my 2011 Rav4. I attached the Thule T2 pro bike rack to it. There is very low clearance with the bike rack on. The bottom of the bike rack, near the knob for locking into the hitch, scrapes when I drive through driveways or ditches. Is there an attachment that would raise the bike rack for more clearance? I was looking at the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2inch Hitches - 6inch Rise/Drop - 6K GTW, 100 lbs TW...would this fit my needs or would you recommend something else? Thank you,

I believe I have a solution for you, but the part # RM-076 that you referenced only has a 100 lbs capacity so it wouldn't be rated high enough.

Instead the part # RM-048-10 would give you up to 10 inches of rise and has a 400 lb tongue weight capacity. You should note that using adapters like this does cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent so you would need to verify that your hitch would have the capacity.

To minimize movement you may also want the part # RM-061 that locks the adapter to the hitch.
