Adapter to Use a 1-1/4 Inch Bike Rack in a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
Does this adapter fit into a 2 inch mount turning it into a 1.25inch? I have a Thule 917XTR T2 bike rack will this adapter work?

If you have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening but need to use a 1-1/4 inch Thule T2 bike rack then adapter # 853-7489 is not the correct adapter. It does the opposite of what you need. Instead you can use a reducer sleeve, # HT02, which will allow you to use a 1-1/4 inch bike rack shank in a 2 inch trailer hitch. It will also NOT reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch.
The Thule T2 does not have an adapter. There was a 1-1/4 inch version and a 2 inch version. To change one into the other you would have to purchase the entire shank assembly. Using the reducer sleeve is only a fraction of the cost of that!
