Question:
Im trying to choose the proper weight rating of the equalizer weight distribution hitch. Im pulling a 37 foot Hitch to bumper keystone sprinter travel trailer. The specs show a 895 tongue weight and a dry weight of 8655 lbs with a Payload capacity of 2400 lbs. Im pulling it with a 2015 ram 2500 CTD and was wondering if the 12k or 14k system should be used. Also if the drop shank should with the system would be sufficient. The truck is completely stock with all factory installed hitch and tow package. Thanks for your help and advice.

When choosing a weight distribution system, it is key to know your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight. To this tongue weight you will also need to add the weight of any cargo carrier behind the rear axle in the bed of your 2015 Ram 2500. Once you know the loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, it will be easier to choose a properly rated weight distribution system. Typically, you will want your trailer's tongue weight near the mid-to-upper end of the weight distribution system's range.
With your Keystone Sprinter Travel Trailer, it is quite likely your loaded and ready to tow tongue weight will be around 1,200 pounds, give or take. Because of how high your tongue weight could get if you load the trailer near capacity, I recommend going with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System, 14,000 Pound GTW, 1,400 pound TW # EQ37140ET. This system with its 1,000 - 1,400 pound tongue weight will accommodate the widest range of possible tongue weights for your trailer.
I have linked a help article on determining tongue weight for you.
To know if the shank that comes with the # EQ37140ET system will provide the needed rise/drop for your towing setup, you will want to take a couple of quick measurements. The measurements you will need are the hitch receiver height on your truck and the coupler height of the trailer. I have also linked a help article on measuring for the correct rise/drop for you.
The shank included with the # EQ37140ET system offers a maximum 7 inches of rise or maximum 3 inches of drop and is designed to fit 2 inch hitch receivers. If this shank does not offer the correct rise or drop for your set up, or if you need a shank for a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, you can use the Equal-I-zer system that does not include the shank, # EQ37141ET, and purchase the shank that will work best for you. I have linked all of our Equal-I-zer weight distribution shanks that are compatible with the 1,400 pound tongue weight system for you.
