Question:

I was looking at your recessed d-ring tie down RR01-C. It looks just like the ones I have in my toy hauler, but I need to be sure the new ones I purchase are rated high enough for my needs. I use a Bolt-it-on wheel chock system that attaches to the floor of the trailer using j-hooks to the d-rings and tightened down over the crossbar. If the d-rings I have installed from the factory, which are marked as CAP 2500 LBS,inch are truly rated at 2500 LBS breaking strength, I havent been able to find the same design with the same rating anywhere online. Can you tell me if your product will not only fit and install the same way as my existing tie-downs, but also support the needed rating as the ones I have now? Thanks.

We offer D-ring tie down products with working load limit (WLL) ratings from 330-lbs, as with the Brophy # SR10-C, up to more than 15,500-lbs, as with the weld-on Curt D-ring # C83780. The Brophy D-ring # RR01-C you referenced has a WLL of 400-lbs, half of what you need to match your other D-ring, if it is indeed rated for 2500-lbs breaking strength.

Note that such parts carry two types of ratings, a breaking strength and a working load limit (WLL). Straps and anchors must be selected based on their WLL, which is 1/3 of their breaking strength. You never want to use any such product beyond it's rated WLL. The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the anchors being used.

If your D-rings are rated for 2500-lbs breaking strength, this translates to a WLL of 833-lbs. If you want a nice safety margin you might use part # RR5K which includes a D-ring and backing plate. This has a WLL of 1666-lbs. Part # LRB1 has a WLL of 4000-lbs.

Keep in mind that the underlying mounting surface itself has to be strong enough to allow the D-ring to deliver its own rated performance.
