Question:
I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD with a factory wired 4 plug trailer wiring. How can I convert this to a 7 plug trailer wiring? At this time I dont need to wire the truck for electric brake control. The trailer I need to tow has a 7 plug connector. Is it possible to have both plug types available at the hitch without adaptors? What are all my options? Thanks

Good news! I can help you wire up your 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD from a 4-way to a 7-way for your trailer.
I recommend using the # ETBC7 wiring harness to transform your aftermarket 4-way harness into a 7-way connector. This will allow you to plug in your current 4-pole and then run the additional wire functions to your vehicle for the 7-way. Since you are not in need of the brake controller function, you will only want to mount the ground wire in addition to plugging in your current 4-way. I recommend you tuck up the unused wires with a zip tie, like the brake controller and reverse light wires, until you need them to protect them from road wear and debris. The great thing about this kit is that everything you will need is included and you will still have use of just the 4-way separate from the 7-way on the same plug.
If you wanted to just get the 7-way adapter out of this kit it is # 37185 and then when decide you need to connect it for the brake controller functions the kit you will need is the # 5506.
I've included a wiring diagram as well as a link with the # ETBC7 harness being installed on a similar Toyota Tacoma for your convenience.
