Where Should the Ground Wire for a Brake Controller Install Go

is it better to run the ground directly to the negative side of my battery?

Yes, when hardwiring the install of the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller part # 90885 you would want to run the ground of the controller up to the negative side of the battery. The power wire of the controller should be run to the positive post of the battery as well.
