Choosing Replacement Wheels and Tires for 16K 5th Wheel Trailer

Updated 01/06/2016 | Published 01/05/2016

Question:

I am towing a 37 ft. 5th wheel about 15k in weight. Are the 235/85 r16 with 16white wheel a good match?

When you choose replacement tires/wheels for your 5th wheel you'll want to consult the trailer owner's manual for the recommended size and load rating. You'll want to use a product with at least the same capacity as the OEM parts. You may have the option of upgrading to a higher load range rating - more weight capacity - but that will depend on the trailer's design and on what tires you are using now.

The tire/wheel you referenced, part # AM35099, is a load range F radial tire mated to a 16 x 6-inch steel wheel with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. This combination has a maximum load capacity of 3960-lbs. If your trailer's GVWR is 15K, then 4 of these tires/wheels will meet it's rated capacity and provide some safety margin too. I have linked you to all tire wheel combinations in your size and bolt pattern.

Trailer tires must always be inflated to the maximum psi pressure rating that is noted on the tire sidewall. Never over- or under-inflate a trailer tire.
