Wiring Wood Chipper 7-Way Connector To Match 7-Way Connector On 2003 Dodge Dakota
Updated 09/30/2015 | Published 09/29/2015 >
Question:
I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota SLT with OEM towing package and I have a 2013 Vermeer BC900XL wood chipper... The two round m/f plugs appear to be the same and they fit together but not all the lights work... The Vermeer BC900XL brake and turn-signal lights work fine but NOT the night/running or back-up lights... Is there an adapter needed to mate these two OEM products and do YOU carry it??? Thanks...

Helpful Expert Reply:
If the plug on the wood chipper and the plug on your Dakota do mate it is a simple matter of making sure the plugs are wired the same.
You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the pins on the truck first. Have someone sit in the cab of the truck and run through the functions while you test the pins on the trailer connector.
Then use a separate 12V power source and with the trailer disconnected, test each of the pins on the trailer. For typical 7-way trailer wiring you would have the following wiring configuration:
White - Ground Return
Green - Right Turn and Brake Lights
Yellow - Left Turn and Brake Lights
Red - Auxiliary Circuit
Brown - Tail Lights
Blue - Electric brake control power for brakes
Purple - Used typically for back-up lights.
If any functions are not used, you can cap them.
