Straight Trailer Axles for a 2 Horse Trailer with 3,600 Pounds Gross Trailer Weight
Published 09/23/2015 >
Question:
Hello....this axle is the correct size for my horse trailer. I am replacing the old axles on my trailer and have since purchased most of the parts I need from your website, but I held off on the axles. I am concered with the 2200lb limit. I apologize, but I am not too familiar with how the capacity works. My trailer is about 1600 lbs alone. Each horse averages about 1000lbs. Would this axle be able to handle my needs or would I have to use an axle with a 3500lbs capacity????

With the trailer weighing 1,600 pounds and 2 horses at 1,000 pounds each that would total 3,600 pounds which is over the capacity of both a single 2,200 pound axle and a single 3,500 pound axle. But if you have 2 axles then using 2 of the 2,200 pound axles, # T20BTR-EZ-7258, will be more than enough capacity. I have linked a video review of this axle for you.
If it is a single axle trailer then you will need to order one from a local trailer supply store with a high enough capacity for the gross trailer weight (the total weight of the trailer when loaded with horse and gear and ready to tow) and that has the right measurements.
