Should Tire Chains be Put on Both Wheels or Just Outer Wheels on a Dually Axle

Do I need to install chains on both tires on a dully or on outer tire only for short trip

Expert Reply:

You can install tire chains on either both tires or just the outer tire on a dually set of tires (per side). Having chains on both will provide the best traction but it is a little more difficult to install them. The distance of the trip isn't as important as the road conditions and the type of terrain. In heavy snow or ice or steep grades, I would put chains on all the tires of a dually axle.
