Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 1,000 lb Tongue Weight Trailer

Question:

I am looking to purchase a weight distribution hitch with sway control. I have a 2007 Nissan Titan crew cab. My travel trailer is a 24 foot with a 690 pound tongue weight and 5645 dry weight. Gvwr is around 7500. Could you recommend a system? If I load anything in the front storage or back of the truck I would guess my tongue weight will be around 1000 pounds. For the systems that have a separate sway control bar, how do you install them? Do you have to drill holes in the trailer for the sway bar? Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If your tongue weight loaded will be around 1,000 lbs I would recommend the Straitline System part # RP66084 as it has a tongue weight range of 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs and features the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts.

The sway control brackets get bolted to the bottom of the frame rails of the trailer.
