Can a Curt E Series Fifth Wheel Hitch be Used with a Sidewinder

Updated 04/15/2020 | Published 08/23/2015

Question:

Hello It says the sidewinder is not to be used with the curt q5 5th wheel hitch I have the Curt e16 5th wheel hitch part number 16115 , will the sidewinder work with this model of Curt hitch I know that the q5 has more tilt capacity than the e16 series The sidewinder would be a permanent never worry fix for my 6.5inch short bed truck instead of adding a slider to my 5th wheel hitch , even thought the price is more Thanks

The Curt E16 Slider hitch part # 16516 can be used with a Sidewinder like the part # RP34FR that you referenced. The Q Series of Curt hitches have a very wide jaw that prevents it from being compatible with a Sidewinder. The E series has more of a standard jaw design so it can be used with a Sidewinder.

The correct wedge kit you would need is part # RP64FR for your fifth wheel.

If you had a Q16 hitch you could use the new wedge part # C16992 though.

What is the best Ram OEM tow prep 5th wheel hitch recommended to be used with a Reese Sidewinder #RP34FR?

I really, really like the Curt A20 # C16044 - which will drop right into the factory pucks in your Ram and is compatible with the Sidewinder when adding the Custom Wedge # C16992. The A20's robust jaw system and torsion head create an extremely smooth ride and the one-pin head removal means you can quickly take the hitch out of the truck when you need a clean bed.
