From the numbers you gave me for the tires you currently have on your 1970 trailer, the tires are rated for vehicles like cars, vans, and light duty trucks, and are not designed for trailers.
I recommend changing out all of the tires on your trailer and using a tire like the Taskmaster ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, part # TTWTRTM2257515D. This is a Load Range D tire that has an 8 ply rating and has a maximum load capacity of 2,540 lbs at 65 psi.
Tires that are designed for trailers will have the letters ST, and have a stronger sidewall than automotive tires so that it can hold up well with higher loads. You should always inflate your tires to the psi indicated on the sidewall, when they are cold, to achieve the best performance.
