Should I Upgrade My Load Range C Tires to Load Range D to Avoid Blow Outs
Updated 08/24/2015 | Published 08/22/2015 >
Question:
I am currently using a Hi-Run ST205/75/R14 Radial trailer tire - Load C. I have a single axle boat trailer and I have had a recent blowout on a trip. I am considering moving up to a Load Range D tire and have read many reviews on the Karrier tire. Would the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D be a good substitute? If so will it be the same size dimensionally? I dont have room in my current wheel well for any extra height. Also will my current wheel support the 65psi rating or how can I find that out? It is a galvanized rim. Are there any other considerations that I should have? Any other good tire suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Increasing the load capacity from load range C to D will not necessarily prevent blow outs. Blow outs can result from any number of factors including under inflation and how long the trailer has sat, flattening the tires. 65 psi is standard and your wheel will have no problem supporting that psi.
My recommendation would be to go with the Taskmaster Provider ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TR20514. This radial special trailer tire has a ply rating of 6 and a 1,760-lb max load at 50 psi. It is great for highway use.
I've linked you to our Trailer Tire FAQ article and tire sizing article, which I hope you'll find helpful.
