Can Brakes be Added to an AL-KO Axle that Uses L44643 Inner and Outer Bearings

Question:
Id like to add brakes to by pop up trailer. Currently, there are Dexter idler hubs with no mounting flange for the brake backing plate. The axle uses L44643 bearings on the front and back. What parts do I need to add brakes? Thanks.

There are no brake drums or even disc brakes that will fit a spindle that uses L44643 inner and outer bearings. You would need to replace the axle if you wanted to add brakes. The good news is that you can get axles already set up with brakes. We carry some axles, see link, but if none match up to what you need then you would need to order one to your specifications from a local tractor or trailer supply store.
If you go with electric brakes then the trailer will need to be fitted with a 7-Way trailer connector such as # H20042. The tow vehicle will also need to have a 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller.
If you go with hydraulic brakes then the trailer will need to be fitted with a brake actuating coupler or an electric over hydraulic actuator. The second option would also require a brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes such as the P3 # 90195. I have included some links on adding brakes to a trailer for you.
