First, you will want to make sure that your 2010 Jeep Wrangler will not exceed your towing vehicle's maximum towing capacity. Generally, when flat towing, you want your tow vehicle to weigh twice as much as the vehicle being towed. You will also want to check your owner's manual for instructions on recreational towing for your vehicle.
If you find it is safe to tow your Wrangler behind your car, then you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, braking system, tow light wiring, and wiring extension.
If you have the factory bumper with no aftermarket winches or guards, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms # RM-521448-5. If you have Mopar or Warn bumpers on your Wrangler, I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms # 1430-1. If you have Rugged Ridge bumpers, the only base plate kit we carry that will fit your vehicle is Roadmaster's MS Base Plate Kit # 1437-3.
For a tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520. This tow bar will work with any of the base plates I recommended and mounts directly to the hitch of your tow vehicle. By law, you will also need safety cables, such as these from Roadmaster # RM-643.
You will also need a supplemental braking system, like the SMI Stay-In-Play DUO Proportional Braking System # SM99251. This unit is a fixed system that will be installed only once in your Wrangler. You will also want the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751452 in order to use the in cab notification system that lets you know when the brake is being applied to the towed vehicle.
To provide tow lights on your Wrangler, you will want a tow bar wiring harness. The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56200 will plug in quickly and easily to your vehicle's existing wiring without requiring you to splice into any wires. To connect your towed vehicle's light with your towing vehicle's trailer wire connector, you will need a wiring extension. The type of extension will depend on the connector on your towing vehicle. I have attached a link to all of our extensions.
According to my research, the battery in your Wrangler will need to be disconnected for flat towing. This is so that the battery is not drained during towing. you can use the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 if you feel that disconnecting your battery each time you want to flat tow will be difficult.
The tow bar should be within 3 plus/minus inches of level between the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle when flat towing. If you find that you will need a high-low adapter, I have attached a link to those for you.
